Working Live Policy Statement Purpose

To ensure Skellec Electrical can provide an ‘electrically safe’ workplace for the safety of workers, the customer and others that may enter any Skellec Electrical worksites/ areas/ premises.

Policy

It is policy that live work shall not be permitted unless isolation is not possible (e.g. situations where it is necessary in the interests of health and safety that the works are carried out whilst the equipment is energised) and prior clearance has been gained from the Skellec Electrical owner. All such works shall be subject to a comprehensive risk assessment process.

All electrical isolations shall conform to the Isolation, Safety Tag and Lock Out Procedure, which requires the identification, isolation, testing, tagging and lockout of the source of energy, prior to the commencement of the work.

All electrical isolations must conform to the Australian Standards AS/NZS 4836 “Safe Working on Low- Voltage Electrical Installations” and employees must follow this Standard’s safe work procedures when working on or near live electrical equipment for the purposes of testing and fault-finding (testing and fault finding on live electrical equipment permitted provided a risk assessment is completed and utmost care taken always).

It is the responsibility of all workers to comply with this policy. Violation of any part of this policy or the Isolation, Safety Tag and Lock Out Procedure is not acceptable. If the owner of the premise or worksite area can not  continuously ensure a electrically safe area then electrical work will not commence.
